Dear Friends and Lovers of Glass,
Many of you are acutely concerned about preserving the history and glass
artifacts from the glass industry in our country. The Museum of Glass Made in
America will not only be a means of preserving, it will also showcase, offer
educational programs for children and youth, afford glass research and
resources, and above all, provide an aesthetic experience that will make us all
proud to be Americans.
We are currently investigating the possibility of constructing a sustainable
"green building" with approximately 100,000 square feet of space at a cost of
fifteen to twenty million dollars complete to opening. The building will
include a theatre, a museum store and a research library as well as displays of
all types of American-made glass and information on glass factories.
A location is being sought in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. In addition to
memberships, we are applying for grants and are accepting monetary donations
from individuals and glass clubs. It will be impossible to take glass donations
until the project is nearer completion. However, if you have glass, paper goods,
or other items you would like to donate, please contact us so we can let you
know when the process for accessioning glass artifacts is available.
We do have one major collection in storage and much of the glass from my
collection shown in the DVD will be given to this museum. I can't think of a
better way to make sure it is preserved and enjoyed to the fullest extent.
The Museum of Glass DVD presentation is courtesy of Dara Jones of Dallas as her
gift to the museum project. I hope you will order a free copy and share it with
as many people and groups as you possibly can. We need to make every effort to
generate the funds needed for this project.
This is your museum, a place where your great grandchildren and their great
grandchildren can see the glass you loved.
With faith in you and the future of American glass,
Milbra Long, President
Board of Directors
